Barcelona

Gaudí, grid streets, a real beach, and a food culture that still leads.

Barcelona is the rare city where you can swim, see a UNESCO roof, and eat a serious dinner without leaving town. The Gothic Quarter is a maze; Eixample is a grid; Gràcia feels like a village. Go for the architecture, stay for the vermouth.

A Barcelona itinerary

Tell us how long you have. If a SpaceXAI key is configured, Grok writes the plan. Otherwise you get an editor-built outline from the field guide.

Field guide

Book Gaudí in advance and leave room for a neighborhood that is not on a magnet. Barcelona is easy to like and easy to skim. The second visit is for Gràcia, vermouth, and the coast north of Barceloneta.

The Gaudí problem

Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà, and Park Güell will eat your days if you let them. Choose two. The interior of the basilica is the one that changes people's minds.

Food

Tapas are a start, not the whole story. Look for vermuterías, market counters (Mercat de Sant Antoni over La Boqueria at noon), and a proper Catalan lunch. Dinner starts late. Very late.

Beach and hills

Barceloneta is convenient and crowded. The metro to Bogatell or a train up the coast is better swimming. Montjuïc and Tibidabo give you air when the Gothic Quarter feels like a funnel.

Pack this in your notes

  • Pickpocketing is the city's unwelcome specialty. Bags in front.
  • Sunday nights can be quiet for restaurants. Plan around it.
  • The metro is excellent. T-casual tickets beat single fares.
  • Respect housing pressure: short-term rentals are a political issue here.

Book the basilica

Sagrada Família interior is the one Gaudí that is not optional. Vermouth in Gràcia afterwards. Watch your bag on La Rambla.

A neighborhood week in Barcelona

Park Güell at opening, then Gràcia for lunch. Best stretch: May–June. Spain is expensive in the obvious places and generous if you leave the main square.

Barcelona is a walking city

Sagrada Família interior, booked ahead. Park Güell at opening, then Gràcia for lunch. Gaudí, grid streets, a real beach, and a food culture that still leads. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Barcelona more evenings than museums.
