Copenhagen
Bikes, harbors, and a design city that also knows how to eat.
Copenhagen is low, watery, and easy to like if you get on a bike or simply walk the harbor. The expensive restaurants are optional. The city is a bakery, a pool in the harbor if you are brave, and neighborhoods that look like someone planned the brick.

Field guide
The famous restaurants require planning and money. The city does not. Spend the days outside and eat very well at normal prices.
When to go
May to September is when the harbor life makes sense. Midsummer is long and lovely. Winter is dark, hygge-marketed, and genuinely cozy if you like lamps and museums. It rains sideways sometimes. That is normal.
Neighborhoods
Indre By for the first postcard. Nørrebro for dinner and a younger city. Vesterbro for food. Christianshavn for the canal feeling. The harbor baths when the calendar says yes.
Eating
Pastry, smørrebrød, and a natural-wine bar or a modern Danish room that is not the most famous one in the world. Hot dogs from the right cart are a legitimate lunch. Book if you are chasing stars. Otherwise walk in early.
Pack this in your notes
- Bikes have the right of way. Do not wander in the lane.
- Cards everywhere. Cash is almost quaint.
- The metro and trains are simple.
- Wind off the water is colder than the air temperature.

10/10Copenhagen is a walking city
Christiania or a neighborhood on purpose, not as a blur. One design museum, then outside again. Bikes, harbors, and a design city that also knows how to eat. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Copenhagen more evenings than museums.

8/10A neighborhood week in Copenhagen
Bakeries as a serious activity. Best stretch: May–September. Denmark is expensive in the obvious places and generous if you leave the main square.
