Iceland
Waterfalls, black sand, hot water, and light that does not behave.
Iceland is a road-trip country wearing a capital city's clothes. Reykjavík is the base; the island is the point. Waterfalls stacked on waterfalls, a soak in a lagoon, and weather that will humble your itinerary. In winter, the sky might put on a show. In summer, it might never get dark.

A Iceland itinerary
Tell us how long you have. If a SpaceXAI key is configured, Grok writes the plan. Otherwise you get an editor-built outline from the field guide.
Field guide
Rent a car, watch the wind, and leave slack in every day. Iceland is not a theme park. Roads close, spray soaks you, and the unplanned waterfall is often the one you remember.
How long
Three days: Reykjavík plus Golden Circle and South Coast. A week: push toward Vík, Jökulsárlón, and the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Ten days: the Ring Road, with weather days built in.
Seasons
Summer is green, expensive, and bright at midnight. Winter is dark, icy, and the reason people come for aurora. Shoulder months (May, September) are the bargain if you can handle mixed weather.
Costs
This is one of Europe's expensive trips. Grocery stores, hot dogs, and guesthouse kitchens will save you. Book lodging and a car early. Fuel up when you see a pump in the countryside.
Pack this in your notes
- Never turn your back on the waves at Reynisfjara.
- Off-road driving is illegal and destroys moss that takes decades to grow.
- Pack layers, not a single heavy coat. Wind is the real enemy.
- The Blue Lagoon is convenient near the airport; local pools are the cultural version.

8/10Expensive and unforgettable
Groceries and guesthouses made it possible. The Ring Road in seven days was tight but the right kind of tired.

10/10Start early in Iceland
Golden Circle done as a day, not a checklist race. South Coast waterfalls and Reynisfjara black sand. Give Iceland days, not hours, and go in June–August for the island; September–March for northern lights. The trailhead line is the tax; the quiet after it is the park.

10/10South Coast in a storm
We almost skipped Skógafoss because of wind. We did not. Respect the weather, fill the tank, and do not turn your back on the beach.
