Mauritius
An Indian Ocean island with a lagoon on almost every side.
West coast for sunsets (Flic en Flac, Le Morne), north for towns and easier swimming, east for wind and luxury hideouts. The beaches are the headline; the interior is the surprise if you leave the hotel.

A Mauritius itinerary
Tell us how long you have. If a SpaceXAI key is configured, Grok writes the plan. Otherwise you get an editor-built outline from the field guide.
Field guide
The lagoon is almost continuous. Pick a coast for the wind and the light, then take one day inland so the island is more than a buffet.
Coasts
West is calmer and sunset-facing. North is social. East is windier, greener, and more exclusive. South is wilder water — beautiful, not always swimmable.
Beyond the sand
Le Morne is a UNESCO landscape as well as a beach. Chamarel, Black River Gorges, and a street-food plate in Port Louis keep the week from flattening.
Pack this in your notes
- Cyclone season is roughly November–April. Watch the forecast, not just the brochure.
- Public beaches exist next to the big resorts. You do not have to stay all-inclusive.
- Driving is on the left. Taxis are easy from hotels.
- The lagoon is shallow. For serious reefs you boat out.

10/10The water is the itinerary in Mauritius
Le Morne beach with the mountain behind it. Flic en Flac sunset. In Mauritius the color of the water does more work than any hotel list. An Indian Ocean island with a lagoon on almost every side.

10/10The water is the itinerary in Mauritius
A north-coast swim near Grand Baie that is not the loudest bay. Ile aux Cerfs as a boat day, early. In Mauritius the color of the water does more work than any hotel list. An Indian Ocean island with a lagoon on almost every side.

8/10Mauritius in May–December; June–September is drier
Flic en Flac sunset. Best window from where I sat: May–December; June–September is drier. I would not trade this coast for a busier island.
