Venice
A city with no cars, a fragile calendar, and evenings that still work.
Venice is improbable and crowded and, after dinner, often yours. Stay overnight. The day-trippers leave, the alleys change, and the city becomes a place people live. See one church or painting you care about. Spend the rest of the time lost on purpose.

A Venice itinerary
Tell us how long you have. If a SpaceXAI key is configured, Grok writes the plan. Otherwise you get an editor-built outline from the field guide.
Field guide
Sleep in Venice. A day trip shows you the crowds you already expected and misses the city that appears at night.
When to go
Late spring and early fall are the classic weeks. Summer is hot and thick with visitors. Winter is fog, floods some years, and a much quieter city. Carnival is a costume party with prices to match. Acqua alta is a season, not a surprise.
Neighborhoods
San Marco at opening or not at all in the middle of the day. Dorsoduro and Cannaregio for walking and eating. Giudecca if you want a hotel with a view and a ferry. Murano and Burano are half-days, not obligations.
Eating
Cicchetti and a glass, seafood that is priced like seafood, and a simple pasta away from the piazza. The restaurants with photo menus facing the busiest quays are selling the chair. Walk two bridges further.
Pack this in your notes
- Validate vaporetto passes. The boats are the buses.
- Rolling bags on bridges are a misery. Pack lighter.
- Flood boots in the bag in autumn and winter.
- Book the room. Venice is not a place you improvise in August.

10/10Venice is a walking city
Cicchetti as a meal, standing up. A vaporetto ride that is transit, not a cruise. A city with no cars, a fragile calendar, and evenings that still work. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Venice more evenings than museums.

10/10A neighborhood week in Venice
One scuola or church, booked if it needs it. Best stretch: April–June. Italy is expensive in the obvious places and generous if you leave the main square.

8/10Venice is a walking city
An evening walk after the day boats have gone. One scuola or church, booked if it needs it. A city with no cars, a fragile calendar, and evenings that still work. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Venice more evenings than museums.
