A traveler's guide to Saadiyat
Come in the cooler months. Treat the beach as a morning and an evening, and give midday to a museum or a long lunch.
Saadiyat is the beach Abu Dhabi built a cultural district behind. The sand is wide, the water is calm, and the public beach is a real one, with a skyline that stays far enough away to feel like a shore. It is hot, polished, and serious about shade.
When to go
November to March is when the beach is a pleasure rather than a test. Summer is an early-morning sport and a reason to respect the heat. Weekends draw the city.
The beach
The public beach has facilities, a fee on some days, and a long enough shoreline to walk away from the first entrance. The sand is pale and raked. Swimming areas are marked. Jellyfish and the occasional closure get posted. Read them.
In the water
The Arabian Gulf here is warm and usually gentle. It is not a reef trip. A paddle or a simple swim is the activity. Visibility is decent and not the Red Sea.
If you only remember this
- Swimwear belongs on the beach. A cover-up belongs in the museum.
- Taxis and Careem work. A car is optional.
- Friday morning is the busy morning.
- Water, more than you think, even in December.
