The Giralda tower and Seville Cathedral rising above the city rooftops in Seville, Spain

A traveler's guide to Seville

In warm months, copy the city: morning out, afternoon quiet, night alive. Fighting the heat with a noon itinerary is how people dislike Seville.

Seville is patios, tiles, and a heat that rearranges the day. See the palace early. Nap or sit in the shade. Eat late. The city is at its best in spring, when the courtyards open and the temperature has not yet become the story.

When to go

March through May is the glory, including festival weeks that book out. October is a second chance. Summer is very hot and the old strategy of staying in until evening is not folklore. Winter is mild and pleasant.

Neighborhoods

Santa Cruz early, then leave before it becomes a corridor. El Arenal and the cathedral quarter with a plan. Triana for ceramics, food, and a local evening. La Alameda if you want a younger night. The river is the orienting line.

Eating

Fried fish, jamón, and a tomato that tastes like the season. Tapas are how you move through the evening. The places with a laminated photo menu under the orange trees are for emergencies.

If you only remember this

  • Book the Alcázar. Morning slots go first.
  • Festival weeks need rooms months ahead.
  • A hat and water in summer are not optional.
  • Dinner starts late. A 7 p.m. kitchen is cooking for travelers.
