A traveler's guide to Turks and Caicos
Stay on Grace Bay if this is your first time. The beach is the activity. Everything else is optional.
Providenciales is the hub and Grace Bay is the reason. A long, protected beach with easy swimming, snorkel reefs off the points, and a resort strip that knows what it is. Grand Turk is the quieter, smaller chapter.
Grace Bay
More than three miles of public beach in front of the hotels. You can walk it. The water stays friendly. Restaurants are behind the dunes, not on top of the sand in a Goa way.
Beyond Provo
North Caicos and Middle Caicos are the empty-beach version. Grand Turk is small and cruise-shaped on some days. A car on Provo is useful; a golf cart is not enough.
If you only remember this
- Direct flights into PLS make this easier than it looks on a map.
- Sunscreen and a long-sleeve rashguard. The water reflects everything.
- All-inclusive vs. villa is the main money decision. The beach is the same sand.
- Conch is the local food cliché because it is actually good.
