Jaipur
A pink planned city of forts, courtyards, and a desert-edge light.
Jaipur is the Rajput capital people picture: palaces, a planned pink grid, and forts on the ridges. See one fort properly. Shop less than the city asks you to. The courtyards and the food are calmer than the gem shops suggest.

Field guide
Jaipur is beautiful and commercial. Decide what you came to look at, and let the rest of the offers pass.
When to go
November to February is the season, with cool nights and busy hotels. March warms up fast. Summer is harsh. The monsoon is dramatic and less visited. Festival days, especially in autumn, are crowded and worth it if you planned.
Neighborhoods
The old pink grid for the markets and the palace. Amber as a morning trip. A hotel with a courtyard is not a cliché here. It is how you recover from the streets. The other forts are optional once you have done one well.
Eating
Rajasthani thali, kachori for breakfast, and lassi that is a dessert. The rooftop restaurants vary. Eat one meal in a simple local room so the spices are food and not a show.
Pack this in your notes
- A driver for Amber and the edges.
- Gem and textile pitches are constant. A no is complete.
- Mornings are the fort hours.
- Winter nights need a layer. Days may not.

10/10Jaipur is a walking city
A rooftop that is about the view at dusk, not all day. Dal baati or a simple thali away from the main bazaar. A pink planned city of forts, courtyards, and a desert-edge light. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Jaipur more evenings than museums.

8/10A neighborhood week in Jaipur
The city palace without trying to buy the gift shop. Best stretch: November–February. India is expensive in the obvious places and generous if you leave the main square.

10/10Jaipur is a walking city
Amber Fort early, before the heat and the groups. The city palace without trying to buy the gift shop. A pink planned city of forts, courtyards, and a desert-edge light. Eat where the room is full of locals and give Jaipur more evenings than museums.
