Tulum
A Mayan cliff, a palm beach, and a town that outgrew the footpath.
Tulum is a ruin on a cliff and a beach that used to be a secret. The sand is still pale and the water still clear. The road behind the beach is busier than the postcards, and the town inland is where the week becomes affordable.

A Tulum itinerary
Tell us how long you have. If a SpaceXAI key is configured, Grok writes the plan. Otherwise you get an editor-built outline from the field guide.
Field guide
Sleep in town if you want restaurants and a normal bill. Sleep on the beach road if the sound of the water is the point and you have priced it on purpose.
When to go
November to April is the dry window. Summer is hot, stunning, and more likely to pile seaweed on the sand. The ruins close in the afternoon heat for a reason.
The beach
The public beaches are real and sometimes a walk from parking. Hotel beaches blur into them. The water deepens quickly and the bottom can be rocky. Sargassum season can hide the sand and then vanish the next month.
In the water
Swimming is best in the morning before the breeze stands up. Cenotes are the other water and a different temperature. A boat toward the reserve is a half-day with a permit culture. Respect it.
Pack this in your notes
- The beach road has no sidewalk. Night walking is a bad plan.
- Cash still matters at the smaller places.
- The ruin opens early. Be there.
- Cancún airport is about two hours. That transfer is part of the day, not a footnote.

6/10The water is the itinerary in Tulum
A cenote that is not the first one on the highway. A bike or a scooter for the beach road, used carefully. In Mexico the color of the water does more work than any hotel list. A Mayan cliff, a palm beach, and a town that outgrew the footpath.

10/10Tulum in November–April
The ruins above the sea, early. Best window from where I sat: November–April. I would not trade this coast for a busier island.

8/10The water is the itinerary in Tulum
The beach at opening, before the day beds. The ruins above the sea, early. In Mexico the color of the water does more work than any hotel list. A Mayan cliff, a palm beach, and a town that outgrew the footpath.
