A traveler's guide to Grand Cayman
Stay on Seven Mile if the beach is the point. The rest of the island is a day trip, not a second base.
Grand Cayman is Seven Mile Beach and the water in front of it. The sand is public, the hotels are lined up, and the reef drop starts a short swim from shore. It is polished, expensive, and easy.
When to go
Winter is dry and busy. Summer is hotter, cheaper, and still swimmable. Hurricane months deserve a flexible ticket.
The beach
Seven Mile is one long public beach with hotel access points. The water stays shallow for a long way, which is why families like it. The north end is quieter.
In the water
The west side is the calm side. A boat to the wall is worth it if you are comfortable in deep water. Stingray City is a sandbar visit with a crowd and a handler.
If you only remember this
- The public beach accesses are real. You do not have to buy a hotel day pass.
- Rental cars drive on the left.
- Dinner reservations matter in winter.
- Rum Point is the other beach, across the island, for a day.
